Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Face Everything And Rise (F.E.A.R.)

Welcome to our latest COVID-19 weekly newsletter.

Amazingly, it has been a week of relatively little news in terms of updates that we can bring you.

The reason for this is that, very simply, whilst the JobKeeper stimulus package passed through parliament last night, it has only received Royal Assent late this afternoon. We expect to receive further details over the coming days with regards to eligibility criteria, the application process and ongoing reporting requirements.

We know you all have many questions that remain unanswered (so do we!). We have therefore spent a not-insignificant amount of time this week trawling through blog posts, government announcements, news websites to bring you some of the key points that we know so far.

We also highlight the Governments Code of Conduct with regards to rental waivers and deferrals. If you haven’t already spoken to your landlord, we would suggest doing so, particularly now that you can go to them armed with these Code of Conduct guidelines. And if you have spoken to your landlord, it is worth having a further chat with them to ensure they are meeting their minimum obligations.

A quick side note to our Xero clients, we understand they are fast tracking various payroll updates to incorporate the changes that will be required as a result of JobKeeper i.e. indicating eligible employees, JobKeeper payment categories etc. They are recommending, where possible, not to make any changes to your payroll settings until they have rolled out these updates which they aim to do over the next few weeks. Read their latest blog here.

You can read the full content for today's feature topics below. We will be sure to bring you more updates next week.

Until then, the entire Mukiwa Team wishes you an amazing long Easter weekend. Whilst it will no doubt be an Easter like no other, we hope you manage to have some downtime, unwind, spend some quality time with your families, and come back next week ready to Face Everything And Rise.

A fundamental part of these packages is the JobKeeper program which will see 6 million employees benefiting from a $1,500 wage subsidy, paid to their …
